I love to shop for throw pillows and there is nothing more exciting then changing your decor around seasonally. Unfortunately, for this year since we are doing so much work throughout the rest of the house, we have to hold back from some of these seasonal changes and put our money into other projects and necessity decor.

I am a little depressed about not having some fun summer throw pillows, especially after receiving the Summer Pottery Barn Catalog in the mail yesterday (insert drool marks). OHhh how I love mornings that I can flip through a new catalog while sipping on some coffee. Bonus! if I can do it while the kids are still sleeping.

Anyways…so this year the throw pillows are not ending up in my shopping cart, but I had to find a way to add a little flavor and design to my current throw pillows.

I thought I would give it a try to my plain burlap pillows that I bought years ago from Christmas Tree Shop. I had already painted the one side in the winter for the same reason. I created my own stencil…thanks to Google and searching Deer Silhouette I found something really simple and easy to use. So, now that it is spring I have been flipping that pillow around since it is no longer spring and summer appropriate. I had thought of doing another silhouette possibly of a crab or star fish, but I don’t like to get carried away with beach decor and would prefer to stick to my “french-country” scheme. This said, I have been dying to get my hands on a “french grain sack” pillow or pillow cover so I thought this can’t be too hard to make. All I need is some handy frog tape and acrylic paint and that’s it…I got myself some stripes that resemble the same look.

So last night while watching the Voice finale I took on this project and completed it within an hours time. Like I said so simple to do. I wish I had an image of creating the deer silhouette, but basically same idea tape the DIY stencil onto pillow and paint inside.

Now I have a great looking pillow that could really be used year round and by the time winter arrives again I can flip it back to the deer silhouette…not that I really want to be thinking about Winter right now. I may do the same makeover to my other burlap pillow I have but possibly with a grey or black stripe.

I can imagine a double sided seasonal throw pillow in many ways…

1.How about snow flakes and an American Flag silhouette
2.Pumpkin for fall and bunny for Easter/Spring
3.Or  a bird and and a heart

Let me know if anyone tries this out, love to see your designs!

    1. Hi Christine, Thanks so much for stopping by and shooting me a few comments! You are so sweet…I hope you give it a try and let me know how it turns out. I think fabric paint would be great, I used acrylic cause it is what I had on hand and with the burlap pillow it worked out great. I did start a bloglovin account, but I am still figuring it all out. I think you just gave me a boost to get that going! Look forward to following you along this blogging journey!

  1. What a great idea! I’m a sucker for deer head anything. You did a great job! I second the Bloglovin thing (and I need to get on there and figure it out too). Definitely looking you up on there. Love your style!
