My Favorite Things January

*Closed* I am sitting here freezing my butt off! It is super cold here this past week…how about by you? I am never quite ready for winter. Though I do like taking all the Christmas decor down and starting fresh. Keeping with warm textures and adding in some “winter” greenery. Candles are always a good idea, especially in the winter months. I like getting back to my neutral decorating again and using decor that I know I can keep out for a few months. That’s the thing with the Fall and Christmas decorating…you know it’s only going to last a short time and it’s quite stressful putting that up and taking it down. So, I wanted to select pieces for my, “My Favorite Things” January box. If you are new around here and not sure what the “my favorite things” box is…it’s for my lovely blog subscribers. I want to be able to have each of you get a chance to get something special and be inspired by my selections each month. I am changing the rules around here though this month. After doing this now for a few months…I’ve come to realize that what works best is the commenting. I’ve had a few winners that have won from not commenting and never heard back from them and had to choose a backup winner. With that being so…I want to just pick a winner who knows about the box and wants to have that chance to win!

So rules as follows:

That easy!

Let’s take a look at last month’s winner! Kim from Virginia! (I almost forgot to post this)

Back to this month’s giveaway…

I did have another box planned for this month but then when I went back to Target, what I was looking for was gone. So, I found a few great goodies to add to the box…that I’m sure no one will complain about.

this month’s favorite things box…

I’ve added this cute and simple tea towel from Hearth and Hand.

I found these gorgeous copper measuring cups

these will be great for baking in these cold winter months.

Lastly, these wooden beads that you can add to any vignette this winter. (These are actually ones that I had already). I  have so many of these beads, and while decluttering the other day I thought I might as well throw this into my box. I figured it would be way better than tossing, and they are so cute!

Can’t-wait to see your Comments below!

    1. Hi Judy,

I actually bought these last year at Target but haven’t seen them there since. If I find them anywhere else I will definitely share!

    2. Usually don’t want to take all my xmas decor down, but this year I am anxious to try a new decorating style in the farmhouse look. Always enjoy checking out your posts. Love the items in the January box. Fingers crossed!

  1. I love your ideas. And yes I’m not looking forward to taking all my Christmas décor down. I like how cozy it makes the house feel. But I am looking forward to getting some new little things and adding them to the old. I love the new spring line from Hearth and Hand. I can’t wait to get over to target and pick some things up. I love shopping there they always have so many cute home décor items. But its been so cold where I live as well so I just want to stay in and keep warm. 6. Hi and Happy New Year! I am a new subscriber and I can’t wait to follow your blog. Love your creative style and decor ideas.

  7. So cold here too!! Love the measuring cups, I have the measuring spoons to match.

  8. I am new to your blog and already can tell that I will enjoy reading each and every blog you post.
I live in Ohio and it has been a while since the high temperature has been in double digits so I have been doing a lot of baking and your box items would be a finishing touch in my kitchen.

Happy 2018 and looking forward to all of this year’s inspirations that you will share with us.

    1. oh, thank you, Sue! I am so glad you enjoy my posts and so happy to have you as a reader.

  9. My first time commenting as I’ve been a subscriber only a short time. Your photos are delightful! I love how your little vignettes are comfy-cozy and say, “home.” In this January post the pretty beads are a lovely touch—very tactile. I can almost feel the smooth wood and hear the gentle clacks as they bounce off each other.

But what I enjoy most in all your posts is a sense of calm and peacefulness. Each one makes me want to take a long, slow breath, much needed! Thank you for your excellent work, meaningful posts, and beautiful photos.

    Happy New Year! ?

    1. Thank you so much much Cathy that means so much to me! I am so grateful for you following along and I hope that I can continue to bring that peacefulness and style.

  10. My daughter came home the other day and walked past my husband on her way in who was shoveling and said he had ice cycles/frost forming on his eyebrows! ? That’s just too cold! Thanks for the opportunity and all of the endless inspiration you give! Happy New Year!

  11. I have to admit, my husband and I started taking down some of the Christmas decorations a few days ago. Today I packed up my nutcracker collection. The tree will stay for another week. I do love the twinklie lights. The Hearth & Home towel and cooper measuring cups are beautiful Those wooden beads have me intrigued… my mind is already thinking of charming ways to use them.

  12. Grew up in the cold, snow and ice.. But have lived all over the world, military you see.. I now live in Georgia and it is actually cold this month.. Tonight 28. I love the cold. I look forward to a clean slate and a New Year.
Hope the best for everyone. I love the beads and copper.. My kind of natural.

  13. Love your box chock full of neat things. I’m obsessed with t-towels!!
Love your blog in general, there’s always new ideas that inspire or copy.
I spent most of the day taking down the Christmas decorations with football playing in the background and single digit temperatures not common in the South. Looking forward to a
new year and new ideas. Happy 2018 and thank you!
    Cheers ?

  14. It’s so cold in Southwestern Ohio some schools are actually closed tomorrow! Thanks for the chance to win these lovely items, and have a great 2018.

  15. Love all these things! I just took down all my Christmas decor and now my house is looking pretty bare. It would be nice to have something new and pretty to put out!

  16. Thanks for the giveaway..will take Christmas decorations down soon but leave some greenery on the mantel and raised window shelves and add some hearts for Valentine’s Day..thanks!

  17. I am always hopeful for a healthy and happy New Year. Love having Christmas decorations up but it feels nice today to have everything put away.

Sorry for the kiddos being sick and hope they recover quickly.

Thanks for a fun and informative blog.

  18. It’s freezing here as well. I am also a fairly new subscriber and love what I’ve seen so far. I have been in the process of weeding out my old decor for newer neutral items, but doing it by either repurposing things I already have by repainting them or buying items on sell sites online for a lot less. It’s really been fun bringing something dated or unwanted back to life. Love the items you chose!!

    1. I love this Zelinda! This is the perfect way to transition from one to style to another. I’ve done this so much over the years. I remember when I first moved into our house I painted a bunch of our pictures frames for a while so they would work with our new home and color scheme. All the best on your decorating!

  19. Oh my is it ever cold here in Indiana! Five degrees! Love all the items you selected, would appreciate having them, such a generous thing to do for your readers who love your blog!
    Blessings

  20. Love these favorite things —such a good transition from Christmas to winter .The beads and copper measuring cups are my favorite

  21. Everything and everyone is frozen here in Wisconsin!! Christmas is slowly coming down. The tree goes first, but I have a hard time saying goodbye to some of the other decor. This is a lovely collection of favorites!

  22. I think the whole country is freezing!! I am in Galveston Texas and it has been 30’s and 40’s. We are so used to tropical weather we are all whining about it. Thanks for letting us try for this amazing box of stuff.

  23. Lovely giveaway box! I’m sorry your kids have the flu! Out here in So Cal the weather is mild but the flu is everywhere! Hang in there – ‘‘tis the season!

  24. Christmas is all packed away, always makes me sad and the house looks so empty!! But looking forward to a new year and wishing you many blessings.

  25. Putting away Christmas decorations is always bittersweet for me but I enjoy keeping candles , winter greenery and a few snowmen and snowflake pieces out. They say “comfy” to me. I’ve got the spoons that match the cups and live the tea towel and beads. They’d match any decor! Thank you for the inspiration and the opportunity!

  26. What a great giveaway! I have brought in a lot of copper accents for my fall/winter kitchen decor and these accents pieces would be perfect. Looking forward to your next blog.

  27. Such a pretty giveaway! It’s so cold here in upstate NY I would love something to lift my spirits. They are a little frozen right now! Love your posts and decorating tips. Thank you for this generous giveaway!
    Happy New Year!

  28. I love your decorating ideas. I am always finding something new. Thanks for your gracious giving in the box.

  29. We are fighting colds and the cold here, hoping both clear up and go away soon! Enjoying reading your posts and looking at the pictures! 🙂
My favorite thing in January is that my birthday is this month.
God bless and happy New Year and Happy Epiphany!

  30. Way too cold here in Maryland as well! We’got nice cuddly throws on every sofa, and have been drinking gallons of hot tea. Love all the treats you’ve chosen. Thanks for a lovely blog!

  31. Happy New Year! Today I spent the day taking down all the Christmas decorations as well. It is always bittersweet since the holiday decorations are so pretty, warm and inviting. But getting back to normal is always a welcomed change. Thank you for such a lovely giveaway opportunity!

  32. The giveaway box color and texture makes me think of the hot apple cider drink I had the other day. It would be perfect today in the cold Chicago weather, while taking down Christmas Decor! Makes me want to run out and get some copper mugs!

  33. Hi Deb, I love everything in your favorite box! I love the beads, I seen them used in decorating and the look so neat. I take down my tree around the eighth of Jan. I do start putting other decorations away but the tree is last. I loved the little ornament you gave out, I showed it to everyone. I’ve got a cold right now so I’ve been home bound for several days. I have my knitting nearby for the Times I feel like knitting. Happy New Year. Hugs, Sandi

  34. I just love your style. I am slowly trying to convert my house over to this. It’s hard since I am a single mom…but I just do a little at a time.

    1. Thank you so much, Sherry! I totally can understand that…I hope you find this blog helpful as you decorate during 2018.

  35. I found your blog just recently and am thrilled to have found you! So sorry to hear your kids are sick! Hope they’re feeling better quickly! Have a blessed New Year and thanks for sharing such a beautiful blog!

  39. It’s super cold here, too. Brrrrrr!!!! Thank you for another great giveaway. These three things are so cute :). Love your blog and your creativity ❤️

  40. Love everything, especially the copper measuring cups!! Thanks for the chance to win and LOVE your blog:)

  41. Very COLD in Wisconsin. -5 degrees!!!
Me also,……first time commenting and newer subscriber. Very desirable give away. Blessed will be the person that wins it. !!!!

  42. I would love to win this! This is my first drawing and am so excited to enter. My oldest son was married December 29th, so the holidays were hectic but blessed. We were with family and new family. I haven’t taken down my Christmas decorations yet but I will next weekend. I needed a weekend to relax.

  43. I have been freezing my butt off, too, and where I live, it’s not even that cold! All my Christmas decorations are still up and twinkling. With so many other things to organize and de-clutter, I’ve decided slow down and just ENJOY all these processes. Happy New Year to you!

  44. So cold here in Minnesota! Sitting with a throw on my lap reading my favorite blogs will get me through the winter.

  45. Love your beautiful style. Will miss Christmas too. The decorations and the spirit of everyone. Rainy and cold here in Florida. Ready for the sun and the new year!

  46. I just love your blog! In fact, my blog wants to be your blog when it grows up, ha ha! Thanks for the giveaway Deb, hope the kids are feeling better soon.

    1. awww thank you so much Kimi! That is so sweet…gosh I still feel like my blog is a little toddler : )

  47. Happy new year! It’s starting out as a cold one. -13 temp feels like -30 here in wonderful central Illinois or should I say arctic. Going to be a long winter. So glad there are awesome blogs like yours to read while I am snuggled up with a blanket and hot chocolate. Thanks for the chance to win your great giveaway.

  48. It’s even cold here in Central FL. 31 degrees the next few nights with a chance of snow flurries!
I love the unique copper measuring cups! Your blog has become one of my favorites since meeting you at the Country Living Fair.

  49. I love the items you picked for the “giveaway box”! You have such good taste and style! I am ready to clean out my old home decor and add some new items for the new year! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  50. Happy New Year!! FREEZING COLD in Ky, 4 ° right now!! Love your blog, and you picked out some beautiful items for your giveaway! I just love Target, and love those beads. Hope your kiddos feel better soon! Snuggle up and stay warm!!

  51. Would love to see what you do with the wooden beads. Trying to add some new touches to update my decor.

  52. I’ve only been following you a short while, but I am so glad I found your blog. I love you ideas and thoughts. I usually love winter. Time for flannel, leather, sweaters……. This – temps and windchills in the negative double digits is to cold!!! I work in the energy division of a company and we have been swamped (cold is good for business). So good that I haven’t had time to he home long enough to take down Christmas decorations.

Your giveaway makes me think of warming up the house baking something delicious.

  53. Although I don’t decorate in neutral, I always love to see it well done. It ALWAYS looks like fall around here since those are the colors that I am drawn to. Like your idea of “the box” for the first of the month. Much better than those little envelopes with the little clear Windows. lol Sorry to hear your kids have had the stomach bug, that’s the pits. You would think with all the cold (it’s minus 5 as I write this at 11:47 pm) it would kill the germs. Stay warm, stay healthy and Happy New Year !

  54. Happy New Year Deb ! Looking forward to more inspiration in the new year. Keeping my house fresh with new decor helps me get through the winter blues Keep your ideas coming !

  55. I haven’t seen this tea towel in the Hearth and Hand collection at my local Target. I really like it and it goes well with my decor. I also haven’t seen the copper measuring cups. Very beautiful and classy. Love your blog!

  56. I love the idea of decorating through the winter and Jim t so holiday specific……..I love the measuring cups! All the best in 2018!

  57. Good Morning!!! I am a new Sue to your blog too. Am enjoying your posts. Happy New Year to you and your family. xoxo

  58. I love the idea that the gift will be from your “favorite things” box. It certainly gives us a sweet picture of you and your generosity. That lovely picture is helping to change a dreary day! Thank you for that.

  59. Love the idea of winning this box – the copper measuring cups are something I’ve been considering purchasing and the beads – haven’t found them anywhere, but have wanted them for quite a while. We woke up to 10 degrees this morning in North Carolina! I waited until December to plant my pansies because all my summer plants were still living – quite a drastic change in our weather! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home!

  60. It’s super cold here too. Been trying to get out in it everyday to get that Vitamin D and keep the winter doldrums down to a low. I lovvvvvvve everything in this months box. The items would all look really great in my décor. Have a wonderful day and stay warm:)

  61. Good Morning and HNY!
I have a driftwood garland that was given to me by my son (it has sentimental value) it’s 4ft long and beautifully aged. Do you have any suggestions on how to use it? should I cover it with wax to make it shiny?

    1. Hi Liza,

That is awesome! I’ve never worked with driftwood and I’m not sure if it will age more or not. I wish I could have the answer for you…but I would maybe just leave it. I would be too nervous messing something like that up.

  62. This is my first time commenting on any blog, can you believe that? Within the past couple of months I’ve become obsessed with all the information, DIY projects and especially printables that are available with so many different bloggers and am LOVING it!

    1. Get out!!! Well, I am happy to be your first blog that you commented on. Being a blogger is a lot of work but it’s something those that stick it out are truly passionate about. I love being able to hear from my readers and so keep on commenting!!! xoxo

  63. It is 19 degrees this morning in Delaware. Brrr! Thank you for the opportunity to win lovely things!

  69. Happy New Year, Deb! I’m freezing away with you…here in Northern Texas. Yikes! It’s difficult to get motivated, except to get and keep warm. Christmas is wrapped up, with the exception of the Christmas tree. It’s quite the project to repackage.

I hope your temperatures rise a bit soon and that you’re enjoying your winterized decor. Thank you for bringing a bit of January cheer to this group by way of this giveaway. Cheers, Ardith

  70. I just came across your post during the holidays and I love it. I can’t wait to see what you do with the kitchen. We moved to Oregon a few years back and are redoing the entire house. What a job! So the kitchen will be of great help. Good luck with this project.

  71. I am a little new to your blog and am really loving it. I just took down everything but the tree today and feel “lighter”already. I love you have a monthly give away. Look forward to reading more blogs.

  72. Oh my word! Those are the beads from Target that I wanted when they came out but I missed out on them.

  73. I just started following you! I love your website, emails, and blogs!!! I am about to start doing the concrete countertops from your article … And I am so excited!!! I love your style !!! I would love to win one of your boxes of goodies !!!

  74. We are freezing here as well currently and already missing the Christmas decor that has just been packed away. This is such a nice box and is giving me some inspiration for winter decor, and I especially love the copper measuring cups!

  75. I’m in the middle of taking down the Christmas decorations and it always makes me a little sad and looks for bare after! Ready for a good cleaning and some pretty “winter” things to bring out. I love reading your blogs, it’s part of my morning routine. The copper measuring cups are lovely! I’m really into copper right now and just love the the color and warmth it adds! Keep up the great work!

That being said, we have a small hobby farm of sheep, goats, horse, donkey ducks, & chickens. . (ALL PETS). WINTER STORM or not ..my babies needed their momma to bring them their breakfast, lunch & dinner. .and lots..& lots buckets of warm brought out from iur darm house. No matter how bad it is to trek through the wind & snow..I find such joy seeing their sweet faces when I enter their stalls! Winter is rough at times.. but it also can be invigorating! I love cuddling up with a cup of tea & my cozy throw blanket and ponder through your posts & pin to my hearts content from pinterest. ! HAHA! HAPPY NEW YEAR! & LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH! ✌?

  79. Baby it’s cold outside!!— yap it is Deb. I’m sitting by the (flip the switch) fireplace watching TV.
I know what you mean about the decorations… i’m excited to get them out… not so excited to put them away,,, (sigh) Christmas is gone. ‘Almost’ everything is ready for the loft. Moved the living room frurniture around. FEELS NICE !
I was a LUCKY monthly winner. My golden bird is on the shelf in the living room… so cute. My lil greenish pumpkins are stored away til FALL. AND the great smelling hand soap is on the kitchen sink. AGAIN… thank you Deb. LUV Target… I was just shopping there today. BEST of LUCK to you all. So fun. hugs ?Linda

    1. Yay Linda! I am so glad you love using your gifts. I just finished my pumpkin spice hand soap, I’ve got to go get myself a new soap now. Thanks for your sweet comments always! Happy New Year!

  80. Love this! It looks so homey. I waited a couple years for Target to have copper measuring cups again since I missed them last time. I finally gave up, bought the gold ones, walked into Target last night and saw the copper. Now I’m wondering, is it possible to have too many measuring cups because I kind of love the copper?

    1. Never!!! Just switch them out from time to time. I love switching my metals and some months doing copper, some gold, some galvanized so this could be a good start to switching out your displays.

  81. Love, love the measuring cups- and everything else!! Thank you for the opportunity! Happy New Year!

  82. Hey There
New to your group…. I am enjoying trying to catch up !! You have some awesome ideas!!
I am not familiar with those beads!!??
I love them …. well all the stuff is great….. but I need some help with how to display those beads…. are the a big size??
Thanks for sharing your ideas with us!!
    Bobbie

    1. Hi Bobbie, thanks for following alnog! Yes, you can use them in a great vignette on a mantel, or coffee table. Pair them with some candles and books and have them draped in there.

  83. Happy 2018! Looking forward to another year of your decorating ideas. ❤️ Love your easy breezy way of displaying items together in your home.

  84. Hi Deb.
It’s not fair… I never get anything, because I live in Portugal ?? … Hum … I have to go to America!! It is! Goodbye, I’ll pack up and leave. ?? XoXo

    1. oh no Teresa! I’m so sorry….that stinks! If it was more affordable to ship I would expand this to other countries. Haha come on over and visit us! And thanks for following along all the way from Portugal!

  85. It’s 16 degrees here in South Carolina–my husband wore a sweater to work for the very first time! This collection is simply beautiful. I love this upscale look for the farmhouse style. The tea towel would look beautiful hanging on my oven door. 🙂

  86. It’s 16 degrees here in South Carolina–my husband wore a sweater to work for the very first time! This collection is simply beautiful. I love this upscale look for the farmhouse style. The tea towel would look beautiful hanging on my oven door. 🙂 Happy New Year!

  87. I just found your site, the decorating is just my style….keep up the great ideas ! You are a great inspiration for me to get up and redo my house.

  88. Hi! Sorry for my previous long winded message. My fingers got ahead of me!
Love your posts, your adieu to winter solstice decor. Thank you for your thoughtful sharing. Stay warm.

  89. I love the idea of another gift after all the Christmas gifts have been opened and everything put away and cleaned up. Everyone talks of January as a time for new beginnings. My birthday is in January and so it’s a favorite month.(after all the fall months ?) I Love cold-weather and seeing my breath when I talk. I love bundling up in sweaters with cute hats on my head. I feel all cozy In my little world. So What better way to break out of my little world and bring cheer after all the glitter and glam is put away than to give a gift. You have inspired me to surprise someone with “plain day gifts’ as my oldest daughter Holly Noel ( whose birthday is a few days after Christmas and always longed to get gifts other times of the year) always said. So in your honor I am mailing 2 plain day gifts out today. Thanks for the inspiration! Have a blessed 2018!

  90. Love the copper measuring cups! The weather is making me bake more than I usually do : )

  91. My first time commenting. I’ve only been a subscriber for a short time. I haven’t got my Chistmas items put away yet. I’m excited for a fresh clean start and put out some winter greens. I like to find the different pine trees, cut some off and bring them inside. I find the color and style homey. I love Hearth and Home and copper. If I don’t win, I might just have to buy the items! Thank you for recommending them!

  92. I love the mix of materials and textures selected for this months giveaway. I was just telling me daughter today that we needed a new set of measuring cups. Very nice! Praying!! ?

  93. I am a new subscriber to your blog and I have to tell you I love it!! Thank you so much for all of the inspiring idea’s!!!

  94. I’m a brand new subscriber. I hope I win! Can’t wait to read more of your blog posts.
