Vintage Secretary Desk

I wish I could be in a place to be updating you guys with so much more in our Mountain Chateau, but it has been a season…

Today I’ve got a little update that involves a Facebook marketplace find that made one of the corner’s to my living room feel so completed.  I think in our last house I truly learned what it meant to tweak overtime. How a room in not always finished after the first coat of paint, or that the furniture you chose for a space has to be so permanent…but that time is key to getting your home just right. I’m thankful for seeing how in the almost 5 years we were in our last house (though I had other projects still planned for it before we moved), I felt the happiest with how the house looked after the years of tweaking. It all finally felt like it came together and here at the Mountain Chateau I am seeing such a similar pattern. Also, never underestimate a “finished” room there’s always room for improvement and spontaneous decorating. Well, today I am sharing a corner that finally feels more complete then it has this past year. I tried a few different looks here, but this makes the most sense! Traditional, functional, and so classic…a vintage secretary desk. That was all it took to complete this little corner of mine.

A lot of our bigger projects slowed down and we had more planned for this summer but unexpected life stuff happened and so now when I find a secretary desk for $100 on marketplace I am grateful for change and progress with such a small budget.

As I lean into my personal style and this homes style more and more here I catch myself being more eclectic and more traditional. I think it’s what the house is calling for and just feels so right. Don’t get me wrong I still like a little rustic and a tad bit of modern elements but give me all the vintage!

I think what makes this space successful is the “collected” feel. Items that don’t feel so perfectly placed but feel gathered and layered over time. Also having a piece of furniture that is useful can make a home not just feel staged but also a place where people can truly see you living and using.

This is one of my favorite looks right now and I am thankful for layers of texture, new and old pieces, and items that tell a story. I have similar items linked below for you, so you can get the LOOK!
