With Easter approaching, I have been trying to come up with some creative ideas to put together Easter Baskets for my kids. Last year I picked up these gorgeous Wicker Baskets from Target, but barely got to decorate them the way I had planned. As all of us busy parents know, time does not allow us to really be as creative or inventive as we would like.
How many times have I come up with ideas for parties or Holidays and it seems so perfect in my head and then when it is time to actually do it…I fail to find the time or the energy. Sometimes I give up knowing that my kids probably will not appreciate it anyway…I mean really who are we doing it all for anyway? As a “creative” mom though, I am always striving to do things differently and wanting to make moments more special.
I decided to be more thorough this year with the baskets, especially since I love the baskets themselves so much. Lets face it you can’t have adorable baskets and then just throw a bunch of junk in them. I had to come up with a few special ways to make it more “authentic”
One important fact I have learned to really create a basket that has style is to add depth and colors that compliment each other. As you can tell from the above photo, I chose plastic eggs and then painted them with a “Chalk finish” spray paint. This helped keep the colors more neutral and the eggs can look like they came right from a bird’s nest.
As I mentioned having depth to the basket is very important. Just as you would arrange a faux floral basket with styrofoam to raise the flowers up in the basket and to keep them in place, this basket should require some foam at the bottom too. I decided to just use some leftover styrofoam that I had in a box in the garage. I cut the styrofoam apart and placed in the bottom of the basket.
Of course this is going to need to be hidden so I added some Moss to the top of the styrofoam to disguise it.
Now to add some more to the basket! Here are some tips to help create a beautiful basket with what you have!
#1 Wrap Chocolates and gifts with wrapping paper or tissue paper to disguise and help create a cohesive basket.
#2 Create 3 dimensional figures with painted/colored toothpicks or skewers. Attach peeps or other fun candy.
#3 Add personalized initials with Chalkboard label
Remember to be fun with it! I love the adorable watermelon rice krispie treat that I found at Target. Adding a book and stuff animal are good options too rather than just the typical chocolate and candy. Do not feel pressured to squeeze everything into your basket. Wrap gifts separately and arrange your Easter gifts all together on a table for your kids to open Easter morning.
I am looking forward to this Easter with the kids especially with these adorable baskets. I think my favorite part though is getting them all dressed up and of course the Egg hunt : )
Please Stay a While

Um…Who makes Chalky finish spray paint!?
Michael’s! I saw another blogger post about it on Instagram, and then I saw it in Michaels. Not gonna lie the eggs did not turn out that great since it kept slipping off and dripping, but I have some left over paint and want to try it on some furniture.
What an amazing basket! It looks so complete….a special little gift. And that is so a basket I’d want to keep around!!! Hope you have a fantastic Easter weekend!
