Boy’s Vintage Bathroom Reveal

Let’s take you all back to how this bathroom looked before! Our 3rd floor bathroom was in the worst shape space in the house. We believe the bathroom has not been used in 40 years because of the condition of the plumbing and condition of the space. 2 weeks after we closed on the house in April, we were welcomed with a leak that burst from the toilet in this room. The plumbers believe it had been building up over time and possibly having a few contractors come in and give us quotes on the space it must of triggered the plumbing and created the leak. We were not living in the house yet at the time, so we were grateful to have the flooring lady here getting us a quote to refinish the floor when she caught the leak. We immediately had servpro here to take care of drying it out, pulling out the ceiling, cabinetry, and flooring on the floor below. We were certainly thankful to have insurance to fix all of this, and we knew this would be the first space to get a makeover.

BEFORE, during demo ( I never got photos only video of the Before-Before)

Our initial goal when buying the house was to have most of the major work done by the time we moved in come July. As we all know how renovations work…they never quite look like the HGTV shows no matter how much you want them to. So our July date was not possible and even as we head into our second week of August we are still no where near the end of the major stuff yet…well, maybe the beginning of the end minus the kitchen. We had a date of July 10th to be out of our house so once we started getting closer the goal was to get the 3rd floor done so we could move in up there and have a space to sleep and a bathroom to use. This bathroom became a priority and we had our contractor and plumbers get to work.

We were excited to partner with Short Hills Marble and Tile and select finishes for the space that would give this a vintage vibe still but with some updated modern touches that would work as our sons main bath. We didn’t want anything too babyish as my son is now a teenager (I can’t believe I’m saying that) and so we chose sophisticated but masculine finishes like the green and wheat ceramic elongated tiles for stripes in the tub, and a simple white penny tile for the floor with a black border for that vintage edge.

We got our hands on this project in early may getting the demo work done ourselves, but we quickly realized they built this home to last and them tiles were not going anywhere. We chose to just cover them instead of wrapping them  and our contractor added the headboard over top of the tiles instead. Beadboard has such a vintage feel so I knew the look would tie into those vintage vibes but also conveniently help us cover the tiles on the wall quickly.

Our bathroom fixtures we stuck with timeless and since there was already a black toilet seat toilet in here I wanted to find one similar to replace it. Unfortunately, the original toilet was not salvageable.

A few more details to add like towel hooks we are going to customize from vintage shoe molds and I would love to add a curtain to the base of the sink. This has been our main bath this past month as we live here, but we are excited to reveal soon our primary bath and renovate the powder room before fall.

Our tiles were all selected at Short Hills Marble and Tile and thanks to Adrienne who was has been an enormous help the last few months with helping me handpick items to achieve my design look. The quality of customer service and products have been a dream for this house. They are offering all of my followers a 15% discount code when you shop from their selection of tiles and marble, LAVLN15

  1. I love the black and white look! I especially love the sink and the chrome stand it is on. We, too, just renovated a bath in our 95 year old home due to a leak under the shower. This is an old ranch house and the look of the new bathroom needed to meld with that. I chose a lot of black and white, with beautiful green tiles for the shower, and white-painted bead board for the walls. We have renovated this home over the last five years and I have realized I had to choose materials and fixtures for it and this bathroom with a lot of thought and a sense of intention. I’m not sure how old your home is, it sure looks like you were true to the space with your remodel.

  2. The bathroom is very appealing. It can work to in many ways depending on how/who will use it.
I am interested in the shower curtain rod installation. I need a rod that can maintain the weight of 2 curtains and 2 liners. So far I can not find a rod with enough tension to stay in place. Is your rod secured to the walls?

  3. Wow the bathroom has turned out gorgeous. I knew it would. You have beautiful taste. Could you please tell me where you got your artwork from ?
