Fall Ottoman Styling

Fall is creeping in and I am moving slllooowwwlllyyy at styling our house this year. Maybe it’s just too much going on with work and kids that my creative self has less time to do it all, or maybe its hanging onto summer a bit longer. Either way I’ve decided to just start in small moments of fall styling. I’ve even started thinking about Halloween, which you can read about in my recent blog post over on the Vintage Keepers blog. Sometimes the best part to being creative in the new season is just enjoying the inspiration and taking it all in to be inspired to incorporate some ideas and just save some for later. After all the seasons always go fast so don’t kill yourself if you can’t do it all. Just embrace what you can. Maybe its making your favorite apple pie, drying some hydrangeas, or putting some pumpkins out on the porch. Whatever your creative season looks like I hope you find some moments to enjoy. With this busy season I am in, simple is best! I am trying to find ways to add all the seasonal touches to our home without breaking the bank (thanks to investing everything into a new business) and time. So, one way I like to re-decorate is with some items I have in my home and re-arrange them. Some pieces are best for the warmer month and some best for the cooler. Today I am sharing my very first bit of redecorating for fall 2022 and that’s with our ottoman. I love restyling our ottoman seasonally and surprisingly for fall I decided less is more.

Come take a look at the steps I took to create this fall styled ottoman. And the best steps to decorating an ottoman successfully!

Step 1: Start with a-not-so bulky throw blanket to breakup the large surface area of the ottoman. I like how this breaks up the pattern and provides sections for the decorative pieces on top.

Step 2: Select decorative items that are good for storage, solid (for placing cups and candles on top of the fabric surface), and items that create a welcoming touch to invite guests or yourself to stay a while.

ex. magazines, candles, coffee table books

For our fall look I chose warm marble, vintage brown pottery, and our patchouli & pomegranate candle (currently sold out, be back in stock next week).

I always have a pair of glasses ready for when I need to read or watch TV. Funny how in the last year this is a requirement. I had blue ray glasses for a while because I like how they also add to the “lived in” feel on a coffee or side table, but lately its the real thing. Could be a great idea to have readers available for guests that need them when visiting. Even a cute magnify glass would be a sweet vintage addition.

What I also love adding to our coffee table for a “lived in” comfortable feel is pottery to dispose old matches and a match box and snuffer. Being a candle maker this is extra important since I always have candles on. I truly love the feel of having all my tools around when I need them and they make for great styling props.

step 3: Have everything symmetrically placed as a surface area. I love the mix of textures from the book, basket, and marble tray. Each feels organized but adds interest to the table top and equally separates the top of the ottoman.

step 4: add flowers or stems at the end of the table in a vase or in this case some vintage pottery. I like to have it towards the end where it would direct your eye to its focal point. In this case our fireplace and TV.

I hope you enjoyed this step by step ottoman styling for fall! I have a few great resources when it comes to selecting products for your home.
