Hello All, I know it’s been wayyy too long since I wrote a blog post. There is good reason for it, as this has been one of the hardest years of our life. I have updated the instagram and Facebook followers, but those of you that are blog readers my apologies for leaving you all hanging.
Last week actually marked one whole year since my husband lost his corporate job. After the first 6 months of him being out of a job, we knew we did not have much more time to afford our mortgage and we made the hard decision to sell in November. We kept this to ourselves for a while and once our house was finally settled on in February I had shared to our instagram community.
The biggest blessing in all this was that we were able to stay until June, when our kids finished out school. Allowing time to make peace with this and time to pack.
After only 2 years in this house it was a tough reality after we had poured so much into this and to have to just let it all go. Thankful that we always buy with the chance for a home that would build equity with the changes we put into and we did make a profit but it still left us in a place where we had to find something new and without hubby having a job.
We found out quickly how hard it would be to buy another house even a much smaller house without my husband having a job and after months of back and forth and hopeful that he would find a job, we ended up settling on finding a rental for now.
It was an insane amazing God story, but I’ll save that for hopefully another blog post.
Today I just wanted to recap on our Mountain Chateau as we are almost all packed…we have one more week here and its a sad chapter but I believe its truly all for a reason and we are looking forward to settling into our new house which is conveniently located closer to our kids school and friends and pet friendly which was a whole other issue we had when looking.
Just a walk down memory lane…
We purchased the Mountain Chateau in April 2023 after falling in love with Tudor style and stone exterior. It was certainly a gamble as we had never owned an old home before but she certainly had us in a trance.
We immediately were welcomed by the “old home” troubles when 2 weeks after our closing we had a major leak from the third floor bathroom to down into the primary room. It caused quite a bit of chaos and an insurance claim to help with the repairs.
We moved in a few month into our renovation and lived through 6 months of renovation which consisted of
- paint
- renovating two bathrooms
- refinishing the 2nd and 3rd floor original flooring
- updating the plaster ceilings
- turning the dining room into the kitchen
- paint
- plumbing
- electric
- duck pond
- duck coop
Every touch truly helped bring this house into the 21st c but still keeping its original charm and embracing all the “old house” quirks.
I look forward to continuing to share our new journey in our rental and our lifestyle change this next year. We are truly looking forward to after 2 full years of moving, renovating, and readjusting our life after a major job loss to feel more settled and start to plant the roots we had intended out here in PA with community, church, and friendships.
