Seeking Lavender Lane

The Mountain Chateau

After the fun of sharing some of the homes we toured during our House Hunting days in PA during the winter, I’m excited to finally share that THE house is what we are calling “The Mountain Chateau” I’ll be using the new hashtag on Instagram too #TheMountainChateau.

Though we had loved so many properties when we found the Mountain Chateau we knew it was a magical house. We quickly found after looking at quite a few stone farmhouses that the sloped ceilings did not feel practical for our family. My daughter was even freaked out by the thought of it. Though I felt moving to PA a stone farmhouse was the direction to go in…I quickly felt the same disappointment. We loved the land on so many of the farmhouse homes but the houses were just too tight, too low of ceilings, and needed a ton of work. Also, the land kept making the pricing of the houses much higher and to be so far at the top of our price range and the house to need so much work we started rethinking the idea of a farm.

Dan (hubby) actually was the one that found the listing for the Mountain Chateau which is actually located in Lehigh county. We were pretty sold on Bucks but again kept our options open and so we took a drive up to see it and nothing compared. I shared in our process that at this point we had not received the acceptance letter yet for the school and so finding the house was a little early in the game. Not to mention as beautiful as it is…it needs a ton of work. We all know old homes can become a quick money pit and we are just praying on every project and going to take some of the challenges slow. (I know the pics are not great, but better photos coming soon).

I imagined us having farm land and a pond…but little did I think we would be nestled on top of a mountain overlooking the city below. Its pretty spectacular and we feel extremely blessed. What I loved most about the property was that it had these moments of stone walls and I can imagine different gardens in different areas of the property once it’s fixed and manicured. Like a true English country charmer.

We have a ways to go and I can’t wait to do a full walk through video for you all to see. We have some plans like relocating the kitchen and turning the existing kitchen into the mudroom/laundry. We also want to renovate the bathrooms, paint, and well just about everything. What I love most though is I barely have to add any charm…it already has it! I can’t wait to add all the vintage decor to this home and tweak and tweak.

We took a chance on this house because it was just too wonderful to pass up…again we never thought we would have the chance to call it ours, but here we are and ready to make this special home even more beautiful with a little TLC and 2023 updates. No worries we will keep the Old vintage charm in 90% of this house.

It feels a little like a story book and I’m so excited for it!
