Organizing the Spice drawer

Wow two organized drawers already this year…now to tackle the master closet -lol- baby steps, baby steps! For a girl who has struggled with organization my entire life, I do know that being organized is vital for a stress-free lifestyle. Knowing everything has it’s place and when it looks pretty we know it’s more likely to stay that way. Today I am a part of a new series put together by the fabulous Sheila of Maison de Cinq, called Simply Home, with some of my favorite bloggers on the web! Those that have inspired me throughout the years, and we together want to keep the inspiration coming to our readers in monthly home inspiration round up posts! So, today we are sharing organization in the month of January and I am sharing my spice drawer!

Before we get started lets take a look at what my spice drawer looked like before I got it lookin’ all pretty!

I will admit I don’t have a ton of spices! I’m not one to make meals every day of the week…but I do enjoy making a few good dinners during the weekend. I also binged a lot of spices last year when we moved into our home, so a ton was already cleared out.

Steps to achieving a perfectly organized spice drawer:

  1. Go through all your spices and check their dates- toss all those that are expired.
  2. If you have duplicates of spices group them together so you can combine them into one jar.
  3. Order these amazing spice jars and labels from here!
  4. Put a good French cooking station on and take a seat at the island and start your funneling of spices into each new jar and apply label.
  5. Put back into drawer- now admire!

For real how satisfying to re-organize the spice drawer. I just enjoyed tossing all the little red packages out and funneling each spice into its new container.

Pro Tip* My best tips for organizing is to categorize your items with matching containers, this will keep everything cohesive and will look good whether hidden in a drawer or displayed out on a shelf. Also, anytime something is easy to see and if it looks pretty it will motivate you to want to keep things organized.

I decided when putting them back into drawer to have the spices facing a different direction then before. 1. so they don’t slide and 2. So they are easy to grab while cooking.

These are the jars I used to get my spice drawer organized!
