European Auntie Aesthetic

Thanks to Tiktok the trends are being labeled with styles like Coastal Grandma and now European Auntie! Funny if you read my blog post back in the spring I had shared about coastal grandma and how my take on it would be more more like French Grandma…but they’re calling it “European Auntie” the look of a chic woman who seeks sophistication and old world touches with her style. She is effortlessly fabulous and takes pride in her curated space and hostessing skills.

I can say I definitely relate to the European Auntie style as I love anything European, I try for a curated home of antiques and finds, and when it comes to hostessing (though I am not that great at it) I do love to make a pretty setup that usually involves a cheese board.

The European Auntie looks is most definitely not a matchy-matchy decorator. She has a home that feels collected and refined. Whether its a Parisian apartment with wainscoting and sophisticated furnishings or an English cottage that has a library filled with books and pottery. She chooses traditional details and a well layered space.

Here are a few ideas to create the European Auntie look for your home and lifestyle.

The European Auntie is also all about her lifestyle, that involves antiquing, coffee shop dates, foraging flowers from her garden, and making herself a home.

She’s a collector!

Art collecting is something the European Auntie is all about, she finds art interesting and wants to display them on her plaster walls in collections. Below, her collected ironstone

Reading as a pastime for the European auntie is part of her daily routine. She chooses a collected bookcase vs a perfectly styled one. Lamp lighting instead of over head, and of course she loves a beautiful statue.

Hosting like a European Auntie, is always about a great cheese board and wine (or rose’)

When it comes to these cheese boards think more organic less over staged! The European auntie always has fresh fruits and the best crackers and of course the best cheese! Its more about quality and not quantity.

In winter you can pair it with pomegranates and candle light as I did below for this post I just shared with The Home Depot, to represent the European Auntie style.

The European auntie is all about a lived in home. She adored making a home, entertaining, and the simple pleasures of life that create beauty. She has great taste but does not overdue her look or her style. A more natural approach to what she does but she does it with class and character.

I hope you enjoyed this post of our European Auntie take, you can take this approach in many ways and as you can see much of what I shared is a mix of that English country and the Parisian lady. Two styles I am both drawn too and try to incorporate in my own home and lifestyle. Remember know one has it all perfect.
