Top 10 Most Asked Questions

Hi there friends! Today on the blog, I want to answer my most asked questions on social media. There are those repetitive questions that I get and since I feel like there is no good landing page for all of this, I should do a blog post I can direct people to. I hope this is helpful and if I missed a question…please ask below in the comments!

#10 Where is your ottoman from in the family room?

This is a source question which is probably most of the questions I get, and I have many people that write in if I made this ottoman myself. I did not and I think how cool of a DIY would that be??? I say if you’re really good at reupholstering it could be a really cool project to take on with a vintage rug, but this one is a fav find from HERE!

Here are some other beautiful ottoman options:

#9 Sofas! Where are your living room sofas from? Do you like them?

Our sofas were originally called the “Maddison” they were out of stock for a while on Wayfair and Birch Lane, but they just recently added them back under a new name. Here’s the link to shop! We have the Belvin Natural fabric which feels more “high end” to me then the original slipcover we had for it which was a sunbrella fabric. My complaints about the sofa is that this fabric in particular pills very easily. I recently reached out to the manufacturer to replace the slipcover only and it was $600 for each sofa. Overall I give the sofa a 7 I love the look, color, options, and comfort. But…the slipcover did not last as long as I had hoped for it to. We are actually currently looking to replace them this year with something that may last longer. Though it is white the staining is not the issue with the sofa its more the constant pilling. To help with any pilling fabric you can use this, which has helped maintain the sofa the past few years and is very helpful!

#8 Where are the curtains from in your pantry? How did you hang them?

The curtains in our pantry are a great way to add the European Farmhouse feel to any kitchen, pantry, or workspace. It creates the utilitarian feel and hides all the things you don’t want to see. I’ve seen some beautiful printed curtain options and I’ve considered that for the near future, but these simple TARGET curtains are for real an easy option and very affordable.

To hang the curtains I used a very simple curtain rod that we just screw into the base of the cabinet…again super easy and affordable.

#7 Where is your kitchen faucet from? Is it unlacquered brass?

This faucet, was a splurge for us, and if you’ve been here for a while you know I love a good $5 find! Most of our home is designed and decorated from those hard to pass up finds. Well, sometimes a girl has to splurge to get that look and not all good patina is $5. In this case our kitchen faucet was our splurge when we built our house, but its a LOVE! I always think if we ever move…this may have to come with me. Its a true beaut from its classic shape and yes, the unlacquered brass finish. Having an unlacquered brass finish is not for all…its just like marble. You have to appreciate the patina and aging, resist scrubbing it down, and enjoy the transition over the years. Keep in mind certain cleaning products will bring it back to its shiny gold self…but as I have learned…it will patina again don’t fret!

#6 Front Door color?

Paint colors is another most popular request here, I am only going to share a few here and save a paint color updated source list later this week for you all. But, the front door has recently had a change and I still get requests for the previous color, so I’ll share both!

This color is called Boothbay Gray by Benjamin Moore its a great blue gray color and I truly loved it! I decided to make a change since our interior has so many warm colors and it just felt like it was clashing with that look.
The new color is the same as the green in our dining room and in Gemma’s room, its Copley Gray also by Benjamin Moore. Another great gray undertone color but this one with a warm green.

#5 Where is your TV from? Did you build a frame for it?

Our TV in the family room is called a frame television by Samsung. If you haven’t heard of them by now, they are basically a thin television that represents the look of a photo or artwork. They hang close to the wall with their wall mount that comes with it. The screensaver option allows you to select artwork so you can change the look daily if you want! Its another splurge for us, but sooo worth it since its the only spot in our house we could add a TV and I really did not want to look at a big black box all the time. We have the 55″ which I think is absolutely perfect and proportional to our fireplace and room…hubby has mentioned a few times he wouldn’t mind the 65″ (such a guy request lol)

The frame we did not build, its actually from a company called Deco TV art, they have many options for frames that you can style your TV to truly look like artwork and match the aesthetic of your room.

#4 Where are your floors from and what are they?

I shared about our floors here, and they are from a local shop called Avalon Flooring. But if you are looking for something similar they are an engineered hardwood floor. They are a white oak in a warm finish with variations in the wood. The flooring is 5″ wide which creates a great rustic farmhouse feel.

#3 What white paint color is on your walls?

Our walls are White Dove by Benjamin Moore. Its a great warm white, which is something I really desired for our home. I wanted something that felt plastery and not just a stark white with all the warm touches we have. It could take on a bit yellow in a southern facing room, but most of our windows and doors in our home face North and so it works out really beautifully. I’ll be sharing more paint color sources soon, but this is definitely a question I get asked most often.

Following this question, I usually get what color trim…we did most of our trim in simply white but we do have some contrasting color trim in some rooms of our house.

#2 So to play along with the photo above….my most popular question this year has been where did you get that brass pot rail? It is from Devol! If you are not familiar with Devol they were one of the biggest influences on my kitchen design from the start. That mixed with Jillian Harris, Studio McGee, and Patina Farms…all great influences that helped gather this look. So, this pot rail was done in our more recent update to our kitchen. We originally had a marble backsplash and it just kept reading too blue, so we updated it with some Riad zellige tiles in the natural white color, which I absolutely love! I wanted to keep the lines very horizontal here since we have such tall ceilings and to kind of draw the eye back down. So I added this brass pot rail and its such a fun way to display great vintage copper pieces.

Here are some more great pot rail ideas:

#1 What color are your kitchen cabinets?

Definitely the most popular question I get daily is the color of our kitchen cabinets. I wish I could have a custom color made for you all to copy and be able replicate on your kitchen designs, but unfortunately this is a custom color to my cabinet manufacturer Omega Cabinets. The color is called Meteor and is a gray greige color. In some light it looks more greige and then at brighter times of the day it definitely takes on more of a gray color. We have the same color on all our cabinets and island and its amazing how it could read different depending the direction of the lighting. Its a great neutral cabinet color and since we don’t have upper cabinets except for our one glass counter cabinet, I think it feels like a great bit of contrast without feeling too contrast-y. Its still a neutral to me and yet not too gray where I feel like I have a gray kitchen. I have recommended trying November Rain by BM since it was a color I had looked at when we thought we would do a custom color. Just to add its the same color in our mudroom/laundry room

#1B I had to just share one more source since we are talking kitchen, I get asked a ton about our cabinet hardware. Its become more of a popular request this year and truly I LOVE this hardware. I had contemplated a few different looks at first but this was a great upscale and relaxed feel which is what I felt our kitchen was. The hardware is from Top Knobs and is in a brushed gold finish. One of the best details is that we were able to do these pulls in different sizes and so our drawers on the back of the island are a longer length and we did a variety of sizes for a more custom look.

I hope these were helpful and again please ask any other design/source questions below! Maybe I’ll have a part II of this post!
