With our new home my style is still the same but I feel this sense of adding just a little more bedazzle. Our Christmas style is coming together and I am leaning towards a more Victorian style Christmas. Two weeks ago (I know sorry behind with posting to the blog) I decided to start my panel decorating. Our mantel at The Mountain Chateau is more traditional than our last house. It was calling more an elaborate garland and though I love me some real greenery I decided to go faux this year. I had a vision that I thought I could pull off and would continue to look “fresh” throughout the entire long season (since my decorating starts early November).
A few staple pieces to creating this mantel was faux meets real and some dried florals. I started with these cedar garland, I think adding layers is really what helps to make a successful garland. Think like a florist with textures of green and adding some color if you choose. I wanted a bit of burgundy and surprising some blue!
I started with a cedar garland and some nails that I nailed into the top of the mantel. Then start layering your different greens. Don’t just stick to the Christmas aisle the 40% off spring florals were a big part in creating this garland.
Add droopy leaves, large leaves (like some magnolia) dried Eucalyptus, some twigs from outside, orange slices, and some drying blue hydrangeas.
I just layer them in weaving the green throughout, no tool needed!
Last touch were some plastic squishy grapes (also Hobby Lobby) and a touch of vintage crystals.
Its my favorite mantel yet!
I’m excited for this season as our projects are coming to an end and we can start to enjoy our home. We plan to host both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with family staying up here at the mountain chateau. I’m feeling a little Griswald-y and hope that it turns into a Holiday season to remember.
