Style a Kitchen Island
Having a new kitchen and one that has my dream island…I’ve been thinking about ways I can style it. Of course I change things up almost daily and so nothing is ever quite permanent around here. I wanted to find ways to change the look of the island seasonally, daily, weekly, etc. Just what will fit the look without feeling cluttered..but finished. After all, having a large island with absolutely nothing on it does feel quite bare so I wanted to make sure I was finding ways to style it. I’m sure this is something that you all have looked into as well. Should you add something in the center? one side? both sides? Tall? short? food related? flowers? etc. So of course I don’t think there is one bad answer to this and I think if you switch the look up you can change it from one side to both sides and maybe even in the center. If you’re having guests will definitely change the feel if you add something to the island for ambiance or for hosting…so let’s take a look at some of the best ways to style a kitchen island.

This is one of my favorite photos of styled islands. I love the texture, flowers, and size. Having draped napkins add for interest, but overall this is simple and easy to change with new fresh flowers weekly. Source

Another simple look, but I love the large scale urn with some pretty flowers! such a great look for spring, and I can see some pretty yellow mums for Fall. Source

Balance and canisters! I’m all about a vintage crock or some clean stone canisters in the kitchen. These are so pretty and I love how she added flowers to just one. Having a cake stand with some artichokes on the opposite side creates balance even if the looks is asymmetrical. Source

Tall greenery, a owl of fruit and some warmth with a warn bread board. All perfectly put together. Source

Sleek and simple this one. I like how they have a bread board out with some cut slices, but this could be great with guests. Add some cheese and bread to a plate and clear off the rest of the top. Source

I love this island so much! The centerpiece is low profile but elongated which is totally working here. Source

another beautifully done island! The simple centerpiece is perfect. I like the 3 heights of the pieces combined on the bread board. This is a successful vignette.

Large rustic centerpiece is perfect for this kitchen. The mix of wood and galvanized here and then those gorgeous blooms are perfection. Source

Another pretty vignette for the large island surface. I like how it’s all grounded with a woven tray and then the three heights from the elevated fruit, floral vase, and the bowl of fruit is done perfectly. Source

This one is a bit busier, but I like how all the colors work together. The fruit, flowers, and stools all bounce those green and yellow hues around. Also, I am loving that basket for fruit! Source

Simple with symmetry. The green is perfect pop to this all white kitchen and the glass vases make for a understated look.

Beautiful examples. I freshen my island up seasonally and now it feels so bare when I don’t have something in the center.
It’s so nice to switch it up. Mine is currently bare too, I’ve got to decorate it…maybe something springy!
