Home Design Trends for 2022

Hello there friends! Happy New Year!!!! It’s been a nice little break since Christmas and looking forward to a new year here on the blog. I’ve been feeling a bit un-inspired lately and so I know what helps me to get back to designing, DIYing, and creating again, is some inspiration. Let me help you to know where to invest because of trends and find inspiration to kick off another project. As I always when I share “trend” posts, I always want you to take it lightly since you should also decorate your home with what you love, be true to yourself…. but a little trend helps to keep things fresh.

So what is trending this year in home design and what we should look forward to adding to our own homes?

Top 5 Trends in Home Design in the year 2022!

  1. PATTERN!!!!

As we have seen in the past neutral curtains, predictable wallpaper, and vintage rugs…think a little more this year. Patterns are going to be BIG this year….mixing patterns, wallpaper patterns, busy countertops, all of it! Here are a few great inspo pics that I’ve found to help get your brain spinning…

Pattern on pattern is key for 2022, I’ve seen a ton of designers mix patterns on their walls, rugs, and tiles. The key to mixing patterns is contrasting patterns, keeping to a color scheme, and to have different pattern scale.

Granny-chic meets 70’s updated vibe here in this stunning dining space. A ton of pattern play here which creates an inviting and homey feel. Loving the neutral warmth of the spaces with the excitement coming through with pattern.

For those that want bold pattern but in an understated way tiles and herringbone floors are classic ways to bring pattern. Everything about this space is dreamy and jaw dropping. harlequin patterns and herringbone are statements that will always feel classic.

2. Traditional designs

I think as we desire styles that feel more timeless and authentic the desire from traditional pieces, moldings, and design are going to be a big hit in 2022. Deciding on elements that won’t go out of style as often and desiring something from the past…invade Grandma’s china closet, embrace traditional wainscoting and crown molding, and wallcoverings that feel nostalgic and rich. Less quick trend more timeless choices.

The classic patterned floors and trim are a great way to bring traditional elements to a bathroom.

Love the classic wainscoting here with marble and having table lamps on a floating counter is such a nice touch.

In our recent office refresh we added warm tone to the walls and crown moldings. This added a more traditional feel without spending a ton.

#3 Curved furniture!

Who would have thought curved furniture would ever make its way back to style, but it has…and as anything that comes full circle…it’s better than ever! I’ve seen some designers mix their classic style and modern pieces with some curved shapes and I’m totally loving it! It makes your style feel a bit riskier, bolder, and whimsy!

A curved sofa feels sophisticated and chic! I want to hang out in every hotel lobby with a curved green velvet sofa like this one.

A little more casual and everyday, a sofa with a stunning curved back and linen upholstery. I’ve even seen Sherpa style fabrics which is a great cozy meets elegant.

#4 Fringe

Oh yes, granny-chic continues and fringe is just one more way to welcome this style into our homes in 2022. I keep looking around the room to decide just where I can squeeze one of these fringed pieces into my home. I actually almost bought a vintage sofa from Facebook marketplace last week for $200with fringe, but we were just so busy between Christmas and New Years I let that one go.

Its a sophisticated and definitely traditional feel that fringe brings to furniture.

Notice the soft color palette in velvet???? I think colored sofas are back in too, it might be time to think outside the white sofa box, though I still love a great white sofa.

#5 Lime Wash walls

We have been admiring these textured walls for a few years now and they may be hitting their peak in 2022. It’s the European style that is desiring those who can’t currently travel. Also it’s an indoor-outdoor look. Much of these styles are embraced because of the last 3 years of missing travel and being home more. You know I’m a big fan…I’ve been considering painting my entire kitchen with plaster or lime wash, but I don’t know if I will take that risk…we will see…

Color or neutral…it all looks so rich and amazing!!!!!

These are just a few ideas that I am seeing for 2022, but some great ways to update some spaces in your home that need that updating! My last little bit of advice is what to avoid if you want to be sure to be “on trend”

  • Farmhouse is out and anything mass produced. Quality items, authentic pieces, and true vintage finds ONLY
  • White-on-white-on-white is OUT! I l love neutrals, but maybe add some warm neutral colors, texture, and contrast to your too neutral spaces.
  • Quartz- think natural stones for your kitchen makeovers

  1. Great and inspiring post. I have too seen mixing patterns trending. An easy way to start is with lamp shades. I see alot of green velvet couches and chairs. Yesterday I retrieved a vintage chair out of my storage and am having it reupholstered in green velvet. I think I can then use it in any room! Thanks for always inspiring me Deb.

    1. Go with classic decisions and authentic style. if you love the farmhouse style continue to do so but with a true farmhouse feel. Study photos of authentic farmhouse interiors and how they incorporate true antiques, true signs, classic finishes…and you should be good!
